Read it. Belmont Club: "Thomas Friedman begins a five part series with a plea for the West to help Islam overcome its own hate. He reasons from the premise that Islamic hatred toward the West is so intractable that it will literally stop at nothing. With the Islamist militant groups, we face people who hate us more than they love life. When you have large numbers of people ready to commit suicide, and ready to do it by making themselves into human bombs, using the most normal instruments of daily life ? an airplane, a car, a garage door opener, a cellphone, fertilizer, a tennis shoe ? you create a weapon that is undeterrable, undetectable and inexhaustible. This poses a much more serious threat than the Soviet Red Army because these human bombs attack the most essential element of an open society: trust. To such as these, nothing is sacred. Not churches, hospitals, orphanages, nursing homes nor medical evacuation helicopters. We are, Friedman says, in the midst of World War 3, which unlike other wars has no conceivable end. An acquaintance of his ventured that 'the cold war ended the way it did because at some bedrock level we and the Soviets 'agreed on what is shameful''-- but what to do, Friedman asks, about an enemy without shame? His conclusion:" Posted 1/9/2004 by Pierre Legrand I am a little upset by the Amnesty Program the President has proposed...can you tell? OpinionJournal - Featured Article Responses: "A Vile Affront Pierre Legrand - Baton Rouge, La. Mr. Bush's immigration program is a vile affront to conservatives. To claim as he does that there are jobs that an American won't do so we must bring in Mexicans is pandering of the worst sort. If I'm in the market for labor and I cannot attract any workers at the wage I am offering I either find a better way to do what I am trying to hire someone for or I offer more money. Oh my god isn't that obvious. I certainly don't go looking for what amounts to slave labor. You people are your own worst enemies. He panders to the Mexicans and snubs his nose at all the legal Americans wishing those jobs that require no skill were offering a wage that a legal resident could afford. But no not with President Bush in office; we will just import illegals. Amnesty for lawbreakers to give sop to both the Latinos and large farmers. Pitiful. We deserve better. " Thursday

Having exchanged many emails with her I can say that without a doubt she is absolutely one of the strongest defenders of this country in the world today. She is honestly fighting the war against the thugs. Saddam and 9/11 Posted 1/8/2004 by Pierre Legrand Well next time dont hold back....tell us how you really feel about that quaint 7th century religion. MCB --- LATEST --- Press Release Kilroy article, Express on Sunday, 4th January 2004 We owe Arabs nothing. WE ARE told by some of the more hysterical critics of the war on terror that "it is destroying the Arab world". So? Should we be worried about that? Shouldn't the destruction of the despotic, barbarous and corrupt Arab states and their replacement by democratic governments be a war aim? After all, the Arab countries are not exactly shining examples of civilisation, are they? Few of them make much contribution to the welfare of the rest of the world. Indeed, apart from oil - which was discovered, is produced and is paid for by the West - what do they contribute? Can you think of anything? A nothing really useful? Anything really valuable? Something we really need, could not do without? No, nor can I. Indeed, the Arab countries put together export less than Finland. We're told that the Arabs loathe us. Really? For liberating the Iraqis? For subsidising the lifestyles of people in Egypt and Jordan, to name but two, for giving them vast amounts of aid? For providing them with science, medicine, technology and all the other benefits of the West? They should go down on their knees and thank God for the munificence of the United States. What do they think we feel about them? That we adore them for the way they murdered more than 3,000 civilians on September 11 and then danced in the hot, dusty streets to celebrate the murders? That we admire them for the cold-blooded killings in Mombasa, Yemen and elsewhere? That we admire them for being suicide bombers, limb-amputators, womenrepressors? I don't think the Arab states should start a debate about what is really loathsome. But why, in any case, should we be concerned that they feel angry and loathe us? The Arab world has not exactly earned our respect, has it? Iran is a vile, terrorist-supporting regime - part of the axis of evil. So is the Saddam Hussein-supporting Syria. So is Libya. Indeed, most of them chant support for Saddam. That is to say they support an evil dictator who has gassed hundreds of thousands of their fellow Arabs and tortured and murdered thousands more. How can they do this and expect our respect? Why do they imagine that only they can feel anger, call people loathsome? It is the equivalent of all the European nations coming out in support of Hitler the moment he was attacked by the US, because he was European, despite the fact that he was attempting to exterminate the Jews - and Arabs. Moreover, the people who claim we are loathsome are currently threatening our civilian populations with chemical and biological weapons. They are promising to let suicide bombers loose in Western and American cities. They are trying to terrorise us, disrupt our lives. And then they expect us to be careful of their sensibilities? We have thousands of asylum seekers from Iran, Iraq, Algeria, Egypt, Libya, Yemen, Saudi Arabia and other Arab countries living happily in this country on social security. This shows what their own people think of the Arab regimes, doesn't it? There is not one single British asylum seeker in any Arab country. That says it all about which country deserves the epithet loathsome. GEORGE GALLOWAY, the member of parliament for Baghdad Central, as his tormentors describe him, called the British and American troops "wolves" and called for the Arab countries to rise up and fight them and to cut off oil from the combatants. Later he called upon British troops to refuse to obey "illegal orders".He has, predictably, been vilified. His comments have been termed a disgrace, disgusting, outrageous and so on. He has been called a loony, naive, gullible and a traitor. There have been demands that George's constituency party should deselect him, that his constituents should not vote for him at the next general election, and that he should be deported to Iraq. No one, as yet, has demanded that he be put in the stocks or burnt at the stake, though no doubt this will come. But why all the fuss? Why is everyone getting into such an excitable lather over the predictable remarks of a no-mark? Who with any sense cares an Iraqi dinar for what dear George thinks? Like Clare Short, George is a licensed court jester. He acts the buffoon while she's the straight part of the act, though she exaggerates her sanctimonious seriousness. Neither are taken seriously. Both are totally discredited laughing stocks that add to the variety of political life. At least George is open, honest and sincere. Posted 1/5/2004 by Pierre Legrand Hat tip to Little Green Footballs for pointing to this Seattle Post Intelligencer explanation on why no one wants to vote for the Democrats...I looked and looked for a disclaimer saying it was a parody but sadly for the Democrats there was none. They actually believe this shit...muahaha. Well good for them...after all if you are gonna do something then you damn well ought to be good at it and the Democrats have apparently decided to be the minority party of the 21st Century. The S factor explains Bush's popularity Because of its unbounded idiocy I have to post a bit or more here just to have some fun. Article in italics. What can explain his popularity? Can that many people be enamored of what he has accomplished in Iraq? Of how he has fortified our constitutional freedoms with the USA Patriot Act? Of how he has bolstered our economy? Of how he has protected our environment? Perhaps they've been impressed with the president's personal integrity and the articulation of his grand vision for America? Gee I wonder how he will explain why so many people agree with George Bush...? It sure sounds like its a slam dunk that all that stuff is a bad thing...after all how good can it be that we got rid of two of the worlds foremost sponsors of terror. Both with links to terrorists as outlined by none other than the poster boy for Brilliant Leadership of the US of A Former (thank god) President Clinton. Naturally the Patriot act has to be brought up since the notion that people are trying to kill lots of us is apparently a fiction that President Bush uses to scare us...that little problem in NYC never happened, it was all a Neo Con Plot to take over the world {cue Evil Neo Con Laugh} muahaha. I think that the real reason the left is so worked up about the Patriot Act is the name...they just cannot stand anything to do with the word Patriot. What, then, can account for so many people being so supportive of the president? The answer, I'm afraid, is the factor that dare not speak its name. It's the factor that no one talks about. The pollsters don't ask it, the media don't report it, the voters don't discuss it. I, however, will blare out its name so that at last people can address the issue and perhaps adopt strategies to overcome it. It's the "Stupid factor," the S factor: Some people -- sometimes through no fault of their own -- are just not very bright. HOLY SMOKES...That's why all the kids in school used to stare at me...IM STUPID AAAARRRRGGGGHHHHHH....No wonder my School Bus only had 5 rows of seats. And my mom lied to me when she told me I was so special the school sent a special bus for me....Im NOT SPECIAL IM STUPID. It's not merely that some people are insufficiently intelligent to grasp the nuances of foreign policy, of constitutional law, of macroeconomics or of the variegated interplay of humans and the environment. These aren't the people I'm referring to. The people I'm referring to cannot understand the phenomenon of cause and effect. They're perplexed by issues comprising more than two sides. They don't have the wherewithal to expand the sources of their information. And above all -- far above all -- they don't think. Yup that's it if I were as smart at this astonishingly bright person I would know that wars never solved anything, well ok wars did in fact end Slavery, Totalitarianism, Communism and the whipping dog of the Left Nazism but all of those except for Nazism were overblown threats manufactured by the EVIL NEO CONS....{cue EVIL NEO CON LAUGH} muahahaha. But what do I know IM STUPID. And by god if I knew my constitutional law I wouldn't ever want to actually wiretap the bad guys because you know wiretaps are bad. For reference on how rational people of the Democratic persuasion see this issue see this Wall Nuts The wall between intelligence and law enforcement is killing us.. But see a significant portion of the Democratic party has taken leave of their senses. To a significant portion of the Demos its all about them not being in power and President Bush being Hitler incarnate. Sort of ironic that these crusaders (oops non pc word) of Freedom and Light don't spend too much time talking about the only group of people ever able to kill 3,000 Americans at one time. Maybe Im just too stupid to understand why the OTHER major party is acting like a bunch of MOONBATS and not worrying about those funny men with the funny hats on their funny little heads. A significant portion of the Democratic party will probably read the article about how all of President Bush's supporters are stupid and all the while be nodding their heads. Good down South we absolutely LOVE being misunderestimated. Have fun being the minority party Dems. We sure could use a legitimate alternative opinion on fighting this war on terror, but for that to happen you have to start actually outline your policy instead of making cute videos of Bush as Hitler, when you purge yourselves of the moonbats come back and see us. Solomonia: Guest Blog - Of Terror, Hard and Soft Power and Nicolo Machiavelli The response to the "your violence is just making things worse crowd" or..."why rewarding bad behavior doesn't work." "If more time and money was spent on dealing with these issues then we will be on the road to solving this issue without turning to violence." Bullshit. You're burying your head in the sand again. The US tried buying them off with Saudia Arabia and it didn't do jack shit but fund OBL. The US tried the opposite tack in ignoring them in the case of Afghanistan and that didn't work either. You cannot buy yourself out from this. Ever. You need to get over this concept that enough time and money can change things in these countries. They haven't and they won't. UN pressure won't either, because no one is willing to back UN words up and none of these countries respect the concept of the UN, much less it's application. It is simply a tool to be manipulated in their view, and that's all it is. It's ideals are hollow nothings in their eyes. There is no fundamental respect for it as a body, and therefore it has no ability to change anything in these countries. The only way to effectively deal with this is to engage each country directly. For those that we can talk to or (when necessary) who we can intimidate into compliance, we will. For those we cannot, they must know we will enter the country by force and remove the ability to wage war in this fashion and end the current regime. Thing is, we are not just doing this for ourselves. We are, once again, acting to protect all of western civilization including some of our harshest critics. We're not making a deal with AQ or OBL or Khaddaffi, saying "The US is off limits but have at Australia or Canada or Germany or France and we won't do anything". Which I honestly believe (don't you?) is a deal France and probably Germany would make in a heartbeat. What we are saying to these countries is that state sponsored terrorism of this type must stop. It will stop. You will stop it. Or we will remove you and replace you with people who will try to stop it. And you know what? That IS a more mature and balanced response. The whole thing of trying to bribe the religious bullies and cut throat dictators into something approaching reasonable behaviour has a legacy of forty years of abject fucking failure. I defy you to show me a single nation that has emerged from under the rule of either theocracy or dictatorship because of buying them off. You can't. Not one. It. Doesn't. Fucking. Work.
