James Woolsey doesnt seem very impressed with Dick Clarke either.

CNN.com - Transcripts: "WOOLSEY: Part of the problem may have been that some of the senior analysts in CIA, DIA and some of the White House staffers got locked into early the view that al Qaeda had nothing at all to do under any circumstances with any governments and they missed some connection with governments. Look, Clarke in his book creates out of whole cloth the notion that some of us whom he calls part of a cult believe that Ramzi Yousef was not really in prison in Colorado. In fact, he was, as Clarke puts it, lounging beside Saddam Hussein as a mastermind of Iraqi intelligence during the 90s. It's nonsense. None of us has said anything remotely like that.

We're curious about whether or not this young Pakistani who lived in Kuwait was born there, Abdul Bassir (ph) became -- changed his name to Ramsey Yussef and became a terrorist or whether there had been some kind of theft of his identity. For Clarke to say something like that is like the 13th chime of the clock. Not only is it bizarre in and of itself, it calls into question, as far as I'm concerned, everything from the same source.

DOBBS: Jim Woolsey, this commission working hard, diligently a great deal of time being spent. What in your estimation will be the productive positive result from this commission's findings?

WOOLSEY: I think they need to go back and question everyone's assumptions back to the early and mid 90s about al Qaeda, and governments. And look hard at whether their objectively, whether there were any ties between al Qaeda and Iraq, between al Qaeda and Iran. There are a number of things al Qaeda did that I think it's going to be difficult in time for people to sustain saying they did completely alone and unhelped by anyone who was, you know, had some fake passports, whatever. Look, Lou, it doesn't mean that any organization were u"

Laurie Mylroie lends her considerable expertise to the pop the DICK Clarke bubble exercise. The man is an outright liar and its absolutely astonishing that he was given so much credence by anyone with half a brain. The man was wrong back in the 90's and he never ever got it right, once. The only thing he managed to get right was warning that the Al Queda should be considered dangerous. But dismissing the connections between Al Queda and Saddam was absolutely astonishing poor judgement.

Richard Clarke's denials of Iraq's terror ties don't ring true
BY LAURIE MYLROIE The credibility of Clinton counterterrorism chief Richard Clarke has come under withering fire. He has been caught in error after error, omission after omission. I can attest to one error more: a highly revealing error that tells us a great deal about who Richard Clarke really is.

Mr. Clarke singles me out for special criticism in his book, "Against All Enemies." This is not surprising. He believes that Islamic terrorism is the work of a few individual criminals, many of them relatives. I have for years gathered the evidence that shows that terrorism is something more than a mom-and-pop operation: that it is supported by powerful states, very much including Saddam Hussein's Iraq.

Mr. Clarke is a man famously intolerant of those who disagree with him. When he cannot win the argument, he cheats. And that is what he has done again in the pages of his book.

Grim's Hall has a unique take on the awful post by Daily Kos. He explains what motivates most of the Paid Security Consultants and this can only force a person of average decency to conclude that Daily Kos needs to have mouth washed out by a few of those he has such contempt for. I suspect that tickets could be sold to such an event.

Belmont Club has a terrific article on the attack on the contractors in Fallujah and some theories about the possible response and size of said response. For those of us who believe that a massive retaliation is required to show how serious we are about winning this war it looks like its on the way to be delivered by the 1st Marine Division. Its said that the Marines instill fear into those murdering thugs...good.

Well gee I guess the Spaniards didnt give up enough of their pride to appease the monsters who are trying to murder us all. Maybe they can all take to wearing burkas? Maybe if they burn down all their churches and destroy all mentions and monuments to Ferdinand and Isabella that will appease the monsters? Or maybe they can regrow their balls and get back into the fight...? Though I believe that once you turn your back to the enemy its twice as hard to turn back around and face them.

This story has everything you need for a conspiracy, White Supremacists, trips to the Philippines, reports of Iraqi agents, a foreign dictator comfortable with terror tactics, cover up by the FBI, a President unwilling to face reality, I mean sheesh if someone wrote a book with this many twists and turns who would believe it? Now with the Terry Nichols trial about to start we will be revisiting all of these twists and turns, should be interesting to see what comes out. A long time ago, the Clinton/Reno Justice Department declared that there was no state sponsorship of the attack on the Murray Building; indeed, they believed that small-unconnected groups now committed all terror, notwithstanding the Iraqis State Sponsored Terrorist plot to murder hundreds in the attempt to assassinate Former President Bush.

Some of the interesting bits from this LA Weekly Article.
LA Weekly: News: Secrets of Timothy McVeigh: "April 28, 1995" One of the more provocative lines of inquiry over the past decade has been whether the plot included Middle Eastern terrorists. In the hours immediately after the blast, law enforcement publicly focused on that possibility. But the arrest of McVeigh, within hours of the bombing, and Nichols, who turned himself in two days later, wiped that theory from the national consciousness. Over the years, the possibility of a larger conspiracy has piqued the interest of only a handful of people with the power to pursue the questions, including a member or two of Congress. Suspicion that the bombing involves a Middle Eastern connection begins with an all-points bulletin issued by the FBI three hours after the explosion for a truck like one stolen from the blue-collar Oklahoman. It was a brown Chevy pickup, with tinted windows, seen speeding away from the area, with two Middle Eastern–looking men inside. Later that day, the FBI canceled the alert, and has never said why. When Timothy McVeigh, a disillusioned Gulf War vet, was arrested and charged on April 21, questions about that mysterious brown truck and its Arab-looking occupants faded away.

As was seen in the WTC 93 investigation the Clinton Administration was unwilling to face the horrible possibility of our being the victims of State Sponsored Terrorism. How else could you explain that an act of war, the attempted murder of up to 200,000 people (WTC93) as declared by Ramsey Yousef, resulted in a criminal investigation? A criminal investigation is what the state uses when you are prosecuting an individual or a small group of individuals not what you use when you may be chasing a state. A state has the sort of resources that will specifically defeat a criminal investigation. Worse, in the Clinton Era, laws denied the sort of crosstalk between the CIA and FBI that might enable the FBI to alert the Executive Branch that there was State involvement in a terror attack and Nation-to-Nation action was required. That the FBI might not want to transfer the case to the CIA is a question for another article on the motivations of a Bureaucracy. A criminal investigation is quite different from an intelligence operation. One depends on finding evidence sufficient to prosecute the other is interested in trying to determine, often with only scraps of contradictory information what has happened and what will happen. The Clinton administration had an aversion to using its intelligence apparatus; witness James Woolsey CIA Director for the critical period of 1993-95 not having access to Clinton, it was joked that the small plane that crashed into the Whitehouse lawn was Woolsey trying to see President Clinton, and this was to have enormous implications for our nation’s safety.

Its possible that the reason the Clinton Administration had an aversion to using its intelligence assets is the very nature of the world of espionage. Using the Justice department to pursue a criminal investigation allowed the President to appear to be doing something about a problem while not exposing the President to decisions based on the vagaries of the intelligence services. In a criminal investigation no decisions were required of the President aside from deciding to move the case to the criminal side; the system would take over from that point on and generally would shield the administration from the sorts of decisions that are demanded when an intelligence operation is conducted to determine intent and responsibility. Certainly getting a conviction was required or there would be hell to pay politically but in general, the Terrorists were very accommodating in always planning to leave behind a few lower level soldiers who took the fall allowing the rest of the most important of the cell to escape. Criminal investigations shielded almost all involved except the American public. The state sponsoring the terrorist act hid behind strict rules of evidence that they were expert in manipulating, the administration hid behind the fact that their hands were tied by observing the rule of law.

I’m sure by now we all understand the difficulties involved in making a case for war based on intelligence sources. The very nature of intelligence will cause its findings to be a matter of opinions based on examination of the very same evidence by different sources. James Woolsey gives a good look into the problems when he discusses the “evidence” pointing towards Saddams complicity in 9/11.
Study of Revenge: The First World Trade Center Attack and Saddam Hussein’s War against America." Welcome.
James Woolsey, let me ask you first. Is there any direct evidence of a connection between the September Eleventh hijackers and Iraq?
Woolsey: It depends on what you mean by direct. Much of intelligence is hearsay, and would not be admissible for example in a court. There’s some very suggestive evidence. For example, there are at least five individual witnesses -- two American inspectors and three Iraqi defectors -- who tell us about Iraqi government training of non-Iraqi Arabs at Salman Pak, on the southern edge of Baghdad, on an old Boeing 707 [aircraft], in hijacking techniques, including hijacking with knives. Now is that direct evidence? It strikes me that it’s pretty darn suggestive evidence. Would it alone convict Saddam in a court before a jury beyond a reasonable doubt? Probably not. But there’s more.

The Clinton Administration probably didn’t want to face making a case for war based on such shaky ground. But that does not forgive it from at least attempting to find State involvement in the major terror attacks by involving the CIA and changing the rules to allow the sort of crosstalk that might have saved lives.

By the time of the April 28, 1995 OKC Terror Attack, the administration should have understood there were people out there who, even if we didn’t acknowledge it, were at war with us. It bears repeating; the 93 World Trade Towers terror attack was intended to topple one tower into the other murdering up to 200,000 innocent citizens. The attempted assassination of Former President Bush using classic terror tactics gave us a big lead into one of the players in this war on America as it was tied by the FBI and CIA to Saddam. The Bomb was a classic Iraqis design and the agents captured were Iraqis.

Pieces of the puzzle
It was obvious early on, that Saddam Hussein, to achieve his ends, was quite comfortable using terrorist tactics against the United States. Witness the attempted assassination of Former President Bush by the use of an enormous car bomb as his motorcade traveled through Kuwait. This evidence alone is enough to move him right up the scale on possible suspects for any future attacks. The Car Bomb was reputed to have been big enough to have killed not only everyone in the Bush Entourage including the Former President, Former First Lady, Current First Lady and Jeb Bush but at least 200 more people in the crowds that were to be surrounding the route. Nevertheless, the Clinton Administration did not abandon its convenient belief that States no longer supported terrorism.

Timothy McVeigh was the perfect sort of person for the Clinton Administration to pin the blast in Oklahoma on. He was a former Desert Storm soldier, a committed gun rights defender, who read works by Nazi sympathizers and who distrusted his government. That he was guilty is beyond dispute, what some very smart people dispute is that he worked alone with Terry Nichols. Timothy McVeigh was the perfect sort of enemy for the Clinton Administration, not ethnic and someone who could be portrayed as a right wing fanatic by the liberal press in other words a great fall guy.

Terry Nichols who reputedly was unable to put together a bomb that worked prior to his visit to the Philippines, all of a sudden upon returning from the Philippines is a master bomb maker. Was his mail order Pilipino wife a cover to allow him to go back and forth between the two countries without raising suspicion? The Philippines, remember, is one of the centers of operation of Al Queda. Ramsey Yousef caught there when his bomb-making laboratory caught fire while he was designing the component bombs designed to for use in the simultaneous attack on 12 US Airliners flying over the Pacific.

The Alliance between unlikely allies as exhibited by the dealings of White Supremacists and radical Muslims united by a hatred of the Jews and the religious belief that the US is the worst enemy the world has seen.

Witness the Iraqis, former members of the Iraqis army who kept showing up in the most incriminating spots at the worst moments doing the most suspicious things. Witness the FBI’s complete lack of desire in tracking these thugs down.

This trial might be a very uncomfortable event for those who still are trying to explain the Clinton Administrations philosophy in dealing with Terror. Hindsight is twenty-twenty and those who wish to absolve the Clinton Administration of responsibility might have a point were it not for knowledge that the Clinton Administration had to know that these terrorists were attempting to kill as many people as possible. This is in direct contravention of typical terrorist doctrine up to that point. Kill as many people as will force attention but not so many that demands a declaration of War. The WTC bombing was intended to topple one Tower into the other crushing up to 200,000 that it did not does not have any bearing on the intention to murder many thousands of innocents. Many questions remain of that attack and the Clinton Administrations response, to fight this war we need to know all the facts on how our government reacted and why. The trial of Terry Nichols will provide more pieces to the puzzle and perhaps we might understand better the reasons for the apparent lack of urgency on the behalf of successive administrations on the problem of terrorism.

Do not miss this excellent editorial written in the Washington times by Jean-Christophe Mounicq is a French writer specializing in economics, world politics and the French political scene. This goes straight to the heart of what we are fighting. And cuts through the baloney of those cowards who are convinced that only through appeasement will their lives be saved from the rages of the Islamofacists.

Terror and tolerance - The Washington Times: Editorials/OP-EDI can no longer tolerate concealing the massacres of Christians and Jews in Islamic countries, Copts in the Middle East, of one-and-a-half million Orthodox Armenians in Turkey at the beginning of the last century, as well as a million-and-a-half Christian Sudanese at its end. I can no longer tolerate Muslim ethnic cleansing in Kosovo or Palestine. I can no longer tolerate Islamist totalitarianism.
I can no longer tolerate the relativism and masochism of a West incapable of recalling its own history other than to denounce it. I can no longer tolerate comparing the Crusades to jihad, when the Crusades were nothing but a parenthesis in the history of Christianity while jihad is an integral part of Islam.
I can no longer tolerate the cowardice, weakness and mediocrity of the majority of Western leaders, or the unwillingness of Westerners to affirm their own values and the superiority of liberty and democracy over all other principles and systems. I can no longer tolerate the inability of Europe to recall its Judeo-Christian heritage.

Fox news reports that two major terror attacks were broken up this past weekend. In Great Britain police busted, a terror cell and confiscated over a half ton of ammonium nitrate. Then over on the other side of the world in MANILA, Philippines police captured 4 members of Abuy Sayyaf and 80 pounds of TNT.

Got me wondering if those rumors of the capture of some significant members of Al Queda are true. We know that al-Zawahiri's son was captured as reported by the Telegraph. Ayman al-Zawahiri's son, Khalid, was seized along with 20 other suspected foreign militants in a raid by Pakistan's security forces in the remote South Waziristan area 10 days ago, officials have told the Telegraph. However, more to the point there are reports of a snatch and grab in southern Iran of a major terrorist, officials won't deny or confirm that it may be Bin Laden. Then we have the Pakistanis who claim to have lost a major terrorist in their attack along the border of Afganistan and Pakistan.

Consider again that we rolled up two terror attacks prior to their execution. This is the sort of information you would expect to gain from the capture of major figures. Remember when we captured Khalid Sheik Mohammad we rolled up a few cells back then. Now read this site that claims both that Bin Laden has been captured and al-Zawahiri has been killed, reportedly the hit was broadcast to HQ live. I don't know how accurate this site is so keep a sceptical eye. Homeland Security

David Frum hits the nail right on the head with this observation. I have been harping on this for sometime; the almost fanatical desire to only present the most careful opinions is killing this administration. What’s wrong with saying for example that while we have no proof that we could present in a trial of Saddam we do indeed have strong indications of his involvement with at least the support of the 9/11 Attacks. Then explain why it is that, most of the time, strong indications are the only evidence a good intelligence service will leave behind and that as the President you are forced to defend the country USING those strong indications.

David Frum's Diary on National Review Online
In action, the Bush administration is bold. But in communication, it is extraordinarily cautious – more afraid of saying the wrong thing than of omitting to say the right one. Calvin Coolidge said that you never have to apologize for what you don’t say – but that’s not right. The things the administration didn’t say to make its case for Iraq; the things it isn’t saying to explain why it over-ruled Richard Clarke – these omissions have been and are damaging. The more fully the Bush administration lays out its case, the more convincing that case is.

Victor Davis Hanson laying out the conditions for our withdrawal of support from Israel!

Victor Davis Hanson's Private Papers: "When should we stop supporting Israel?
The recent assassination of Sheik Saruman raises among some Americans the question at what point should we reconsider our rather blanket support for the Israelis and show a more even-handed attitude toward the Palestinians? The answer, it seems to me, should be assessed in cultural, economic, political, and social terms. Well, we should no longer support Israel, when Mr. Sharon suspends all elections and plans a decade of unquestioned rule. Mr. Sharon suspends all investigation about fiscal impropriety as his family members spend millions of Israeli aid money in Paris.
All Israeli television and newspapers are censored by the Likud party. Israeli hit teams enter the West Bank with the precise intention of targeting and blowing up Arab women and children."

Glenn is sticking to the job, thanks Glenn. He published a email from a dedicated patriot worried about people being sick and tired of hearing about soldiers. I hope that the reason this issue isnt getting more exposure from the Blogsphere is I put the story out over the weekend. Thats my fault as I was late checking that particular email account. Maybe it will get more exposure today. I will re-send all those emails I sent to other sites besides Instapundit in the hope of getting it noticed. It isnt about links to this site...I dont care if you do or not. The entire email is below, publish the email and get the story out. Its absolutely shameful that our soldiers might be getting shuffled aside for more important issues like who is winning the latest reality show.

I called Value Web today to see what was up and they assured me it wasnt on their end. I tried reducing the number of links to my site thinking that might help and no joy. Even reducing the number of posts shown on my site from 30 days to 10 posts had no affect. Anyone with any ideas please help!

I finally get a mention by Instapundit and my site takes a nose dive. ARRRGGGH...

Btw Glenn was the only one to mention the story about the soldiers being forgotten. Thats pitiful since I sent it to about 6 other sites trying to get the story some notice. This isnt about linkage to me...I dont care if you do or not. Support the Soldiers who allow you the freedom to blog. The sites I sent this message too are supposed to be concerned about this sort of thing...went to their blogs and nothing but fluff being published.

Sitting around the monitor with my family absolutely pumped about Glenn Reynolds Instapundit linking to this marvelous story. Please, help make sure that the soldiers are not foregotten. They deserve garlands and parades not obscurity. Thank you Glenn!

The sort of war we are in is devilishly clever on the Terrorists part. He doesnt worry about striking us every day,or even every year, in fact its better for him if President Bush is left trying to remind us that there is a war on! It weakens President Bush as he is left, even with the 3,000 dead on 9/11, sounding like Cassandra with all the warnings about the war on terror we are in and no strikes. Terror is much more terrifying when your guard is down. Given this Mom's plea that "People are sick of hearing about the war" we might be just about ready for another attack. Our enemies are out there, we shouldn't need any reminders! They are waiting to strike! And our soldiers, who are standing athwart the terrorists desire to murder us, deserve better than for us to be tired of hearing about them. Besides helping them keeps the mind focused on the fact that the Bad Men still want to kill us, our children and our way of life, DONATE!.

Now that the new troop rotation in Iraq is nearly complete, I am writing to
you for more help. You donated before with PayPal and we were able to
accomplish so much for the troops last year. We ended up raising just over
$855,000 and we sent over $633,000 worth of Air Conditioners, Heaters, new
combat boots, food stuffs, personal care items, and even christmas trees.
These all went to the soldiers of Operation Iraqi Freedom 1 and Operation
Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan. We are a full fledge non-profit company
now and I am working hard to secure funding from corporate America, but it
is taking time and that is not what our troops in Iraq have. It is already
heating up over there and the requests for ACs are rolling in every day.

Because of the volume of emails we get, Peggy and I can't manage them all so
what we decided would be a good solution is to have you re-sign up on the
website again as you did before to Adopt-A-Soldier. Just go to
www.operationac.com and click on the blue star at the top where the text
says "Adopt A Soldier". I will email out the new soldiers to those who sign
up from 3/24/04 onward when I return from seeing my own son come back from
Iraq. He is due back in the United States on April 2nd. He has been
delayed in Kuwait with his unit.

We are working hard to get air conditioners out to our troops in support of
Operation Iraqi Freedom 2 and any donation you can make to us would be
greatly appreciated. Please even $5, $10 or $20 is fine. We were able to
do so much last summer for our troops and I would like to continue but we
operate on donations and people just are sick of hearing about the war and
have essentially stopped donating all together.
All donations are tax
deductible. PayPal is the easiest for us but if you want to mail us a check
that would be really great. Checks should be made out to Operation AC, Inc.
because we are a non-profit company. Our address is 560 Peoples Plaza, Box
121, Newark, DE 19702

Thank you so much and I really hope you sign up to adopt a new soldier
because they really love that we help them this way. Yes - all
contributions to Operation AC, Inc. are tax deductible and we sure could use
any funding you can spare to help us get the air conditioners for the troops
who are there now for Operation Iraqi Freedom 2. Please don't think I'm
being pushy about this if you can't donate, just write your soldier if that
is all you can do. Do what you can we are not asking you to do anything you
don't want to do. The whole plan is for we Americans to support our
deployed troops. I don't make this about politics or policy, that is for
the talking heads in Washington DC to worry about. My job, as a mother, as
an American is to support my son and other fellow Americans who have sons
and daughters who serve in the US Military. It is just that simple - and it
works. We Americans are a team that is what makes us who we are.

Thank you very much,

Oh my, Richard Clarke a lying stack of bureaucratic nothingness, say it isnt so...you need to read Edward Jay Epstein's site at least once a week. Always has a gem there somewhere...interesting site as well.
clarke: "Richard A. Clarke makes assertions in his book Against All Enemies that can be easily checked against external and unambiguous sources. Is Clarke truthful in verifiable assertions he makes?

Answer: No, in at least one instance Clarke totally fabricates a position he attributes to another author's book, and then use his fabrication to discredit that author's position. On p.95 of his Against All Enemies, Clarke states that author Laurie Mylroie had asserted 'Ramzi Yousef was not in the federal Metropolitan Detention Center in Manhattan but lounging at the right hand of Saddam Hussein in Baghdad.' He then debunks this 'thesis' by stating that, in fact, Ramzi Yousef 'had been in a U.S. jail for years,' which was true."

Collateral question:Why Did Clarke go to such extreme lengths-- including a blatant fabrication-- to discredit Mylroie's book? Why indeed!
