This interview with Chris Matthews is awful and I tell you if there were anyone else to vote for to the right of Bush I would drop him in a heartbeat. Im sick to death of this nonsense. You simply cannot have it all the ways the Bush Administration is trying to have it.

So we went to Iraq to make sure that Saddam didn't give his weapons to terrorists, but we lost the weapons. Course had we NOT lost the weapons we would be left wondering which terrorists Saddam would have given his weapons to since Rumsfeld doesn't believe that Al Qaeda and Saddam are linked, parsing words as he does the impression is left that that they are embarrassed about discussing connections between Al Qaeda and Saddam. Rumsfeld attempt to be precise ends up looking like he is hiding something...something like we went to war in Iraq for no other reason that to give some kid the right to take a bath. No links to terror except for the 25,000 dollar rewards he was giving to people blowing themselves up in Israel. Look Im all for Israel but if we went to war in Iraq because of that then I will Vote for Kerry.

Rumsfeld may think he is being clever by playing word games with Matthews but all he did was add to the belief that there is no connection between Al Qaeda and Saddam. This is essential and the Bush Administration STILL hasn't figured it out. No one is a stronger supporter of Bush than I but if we went to war to prevent Saddam from giving rewards out to Suicide Bombers in Israel or to punish him for violating UN resolutions I will vote for Kerry to end this farce of an administration once and for all.
DoD News: Secretary Rumsfeld Interview with Chris Matthews, MSNBC

UPDATE: Its been pointed out that the Bush Administration may not be making the case of the Linkage because every time they try they get hammered. Im sorry but I just do not feel sorry for them. They are the ones who have the information to stop the press dead in its tracks. But to do this they have to actually want to engage the press. I swear to God that if the only evidence of the terror connections that the Bush administration is willing to stand by and defend is the payment of reward money to Palestinian Bombers I will never vote for a Republican again in my life. This is truly becoming a farce. We went in there to defend against Saddam giving his weapons of mass destruction to terrorists. We fail to find his weapons of mass destruction dithering around with the UN long enough to ALLOW Saddam to either give them to those terrorists or to give them to countries that will give them to terrorists, but then again why worry since everyone from President Bush to Sec Def Rumsfeld pooh pooh the very idea of there being connections between Saddam and 9/11. If there was no possibility of there being connections between Saddam and the worst terror attack in history why worry about him being complicit in even worse terror attack? I and the majority of the American Public really don't give a rats ass about what the UN does, did, or whatever resolutions Saddam violated. What we were worried about was whether Saddam was allied with Al Qaeda and was willing to give his weapons to them.

UPDATE: Belmont Club has a different take on this...I dont agree with their article but more later.
Too bad the Democrats suck so hard because if they didnt this would be the perfect opportunity to nail President Bush to the wall for going wobbly. We have the guys causing all the trouble bottled up in a city the marines are ready to take them down and we BACK DOWN! What sort of bloody bullshit is THAT???? This is pitiful and what we are seeing signals the deathknell of the US chances for victory. Whats next we replace Bremer with Saddam?
Telegraph | News | Saddam's man takes over in Fallujah: "'This is not a withdrawal, it is not a retreat,' insisted Brig Gen Mark Kimmitt, the senior US military spokesman in Iraq. 'But as long as we continue to see progress, we will continue to pursue the political track.' He said the new force would start to man checkpoints. Gareth Bayley, a British coalition spokesman, said: 'Talk of a peace deal is over the top. What we have here is a tactical change.' Tanks and American troops left Fallujah after pulling down barbed wire defences around the soft drinks factory where they had set up a base for the past three weeks."
|

Press Statement
While we refuse the endangering of the lives of civilians, we maintain that the return to service of Saddam’s Republican Guard in Fallujah to the military and political arena is a military initiative of the American Marines and has nothing to do with the new Iraqi Army. We do not bear the responsibility.

We stand strongly against this move because it seriously threatens the security and future of Iraq. The command of the brigade and many of its members repressed the people in the uprising of March 1991 and supported Saddam’s regime throughout his dictatorial rule.

Defense Minister Ali Allawi said "The Fallujah Force is not part of the new Iraqi Army. There is no place in the new Iraqi Army for senior officers of Saddam's Republican Guards or those who have committed crimes against the Iraqi people." We endorse the statement of the Iraqi Defense Minister.

He is a good man surrounded by the best and worst of our country. Its the worst that bothers me...people like Powell, Mineta and Tenet should be gone. Here is the Presidents weekly address.
FOXNews.com - Politics - Transcript: President's Weekly Radio Address: "Good morning. A year ago, I declared an end to major combat operations in Iraq, after coalition forces conducted one of the swiftest, most successful and humane campaigns in military history. I thanked our troops for their courage and for their professionalism. They had confronted a gathering danger to our nation and the world. They had vanquished a brutal dictator who had twice invaded neighboring countries, who had used weapons of mass destruction against his own people, and who had supported and financed terrorism. On that day, I also cautioned Americans that, while a tyrant had fallen, the war against terror would go on.
One year later, despite many challenges, life for the Iraqi people is a world away from the cruelty and corruption of Saddam's regime. At the most basic level of justice, people are no longer disappearing into political prisons, torture chambers, and mass graves ? because the former dictator is in prison himself. And their daily life is improving. Electricity is now more widely available than before the war. Iraq has a stable currency and banks are thriving. Schools and clinics have been renovated and reopened, and power plants, hospitals, water and sanitation facilities, and bridges are being rehabilitated. Iraq's oil infrastructure is being rebuilt, with the Iraqi oil industry already producing about 2.5 million barrels per day. "

John S gives us a terrific article on the apparent slant of the media.
LeanWRITE: The Message and the Messenger - The Media and the Sacrifices Make no mistake....I'm not insinuating that we shouldn't learn of the deaths, or the grievous injuries, suffered by our forces around the world. Our men and women in uniform are our neighbors, sons, fathers, brothers, mothers, sisters, and daughters, and we all bear responsibility for their well-being. The American public can, I believe, be trusted to know the sacrifices of those in uniform. Since 9-11, it's hard to fathom how any of us couldn't know what they're sacrificing. However, it's because of that trust that I think both ABC and Trudeau are appealing to assumptions that the public is in the dark about the costs of war. For them, it isn't about what America can do for the world, it's what Bush has done to our boys.
|

One of the crimes of the Old Media is their failure to focus on what is important. For instance the war in Afghanistan continues. Asia Times though somewhat Anti American does do some very good reporting.

Its sort of sad that I dont have any other choices for President since this President is going wobbly on me. The best testimony so far by any Administration official has been Ashcroft's and here the President distances himself from it? What the Hell? Does he WANT to lose?
CNN.com - Bush 9/11 session 'marvelous' - Apr 30, 2004: "In his testimony to the commission, Attorney General John Ashcroft said panelist and former Clinton administration Dep. Attorney General Jamie Gorelick was responsible for a 'wall' that kept criminal and anti-terrorism investigators from working together.
The department then provided more documents on the issue to the commission at its request, and made the decision to declassify them and make them public this week.
In a highly unusual move, White House Press Secretary Scott McClellan publicly said the president was 'disappointed' with the department's decision to make the documents public and that the White House had relayed its displeasure to the department."
|

President Bush should have told them to jump off a bridge. Or better yet when those commissioners left both President Bush and Vice President Cheney should have gotten up and excused themselves by saying that the administration would no longer participate in this kangaroo court.

UPDATE: U.S.: 'Possible Breakthrough' Over Fallujah I don't believe this is going to work. Employing former Generals in the Baathist army is not going to reassure the Iraqis that we are committed to stabilizing Iraq. Unless we mean to stabilize it the same way Saddam was fond of doing, I thought we were supposed to change this method...? This is evidence that the State Department is actively attempting to subvert the process.

I find myself beginning to wonder exactly when the Grand Strategy to WIN in Iraq will reveal itself. Its evident that President Bush has absolutely no desire to go against the bureaucracy of the State Department and had he been facing a credible candidate that would have cost him my vote. I simply am becoming so disgusted with Powell's lies and game-playing that I would vote for anyone that would depose him replacing him with someone actually interested in more than making a few headlines. Powell's grandstanding and preening is costing us the war.

The failures so far attributable to Powell.
1. Going to the UN repeatedly hat in hand asking them to allow us to defend ourselves.
2. NOT making Saddam's support of Terrorism the central feature of our campaign to depose him. THIS is causing incalculable damage to the war effort in these days of loss and grief to our soldiers. Had the US Population been focused not on some violations of UN Resolutions, a body politic that they rightfully hold in contempt, but instead focused on the very real and extensive terror connections the support for the war would still be very strong.
3. The failure to back the INC in the Liberation of Iraq.
4. The continuing failure to win the peace.

Could this be a bad thing for that Haughty French Looking Senator from Mass. who just happens to be a Vietnam War Hero? Oh probably in the other universe where the press actually reports things like this happening but here in upside down universe the most important thing for the press to do is make Bush lose. Here in upside down universe anything that makes Kerry weak makes Bush strong and must never be mentioned. So when we encounter those exceedingly rare displays of concrete action inside the Kerry Camp and those actions cast the chosen one in a bad light they must be ignored. Thanks go out to dear Allah the most wonderful ruler of the world may his armpits be a tangle of fleas and sores. Kerry's main Iranian fund raiser sues the Movement Public Statements Kerry's main Iranian fund raiser sues the Movement SMCCDI (Announcement) Apr 29, 2004 The primary Iranian supporter of Senator John Kerry and a subject of many controversies, Hassan Nemazee, has sued the "Student Movement Coordination Committee for Democracy in Iran (SMCCDI) and its coordinator for 10-million dollars in damages. These two frivolous and potentially muffling law suits were filed on March 3rd at the 125th Judicial District Court of Harris County (Houston Texas) by Nemazee's hot shot lawyer, Charles R. Parker, who specializes in "complex business litigations." The SMCCDI's registrant was served on April 16th, and the Student Movement's coordinator, Aryo B. Pirouznia, was served on April 20th. Tactically, the law suits are believed to be an attempt to publicly rehabilitate Nemazee's reputation. Being the subject of many less than positive discussions, Nemazee needs his image polished to cleanse John Kerry's Presidential campaign that has been tarnished with troubling questions on his international links. Muffling, or forcing SMCCDI to cease operations would then give them a free hand in regard to the Iranian-American equation. Indeed, sustaining a judgment against SMCCDI could very well cause its' well known and valuable American operations to cease, as none of its US resident members have the resources to fight the Iranian-American businessman supporting Mr. Kerry.

I am with Ann Coulter all the way on this piece. Indeed were John Kerry to say that he was going to fire Norman Mineta and hire Michelle Malkin to run the Department of Transportion I would vote for him over President Bush. But I dont think we have to worry about that as both men seem convinced that Profiling is evil...the idiocy of that is beyond comprehension. And for those who are sharpening up their pencils to fire off some bit of brilliance about how if we profiled Arab men then the Al Queda would start using some other ethnic group I say good. Make them continue to find other groups....they have stuck with Arabs so far because those are the easiest to convince to die for the cause. Lets see them convince my German Mom that its a good idea to die for a corrupt 8th century religion.
Arab Hijackers Now Eligible For Pre-Boarding!Worst of all, the Department of Transportation ordered the settlement money to be spent on civil-rights programs to train airline staff to stop looking for terrorists, a practice known as digging your own grave and paying for the shovel. Airlines that have been the most vigilant against terrorism are forced by the government into re-education seminars to learn to suppress common sense. Airlines are being forced, at their own expense, to make commercial air travel more dangerous.

If John Kerry would promise to fire Norman Mineta and start racial profiling at the airports, I would campaign for him. Unfortunately, like George Bush, Kerry doesn't travel commercial air with the little people.

Update: sadly this did NOT run in todays Opinion Journal, am I losing my touch in the letters to the editor?Opinion Journal Surely you jest! Ann Coulter is right that Conservatives are sort of cute when they believe that if they just explain the problem in a different way the Leftists will get it. They won’t, ever, get it, they already got it and “it” ain’t what the conservatives would believe anyone would accept as reality. Since the Conservatives don’t like what the Leftist’s believe they just convince themselves that they must be misunderstanding the leftists or that the leftists just don’t understand the problem. This isn’t the case. The Leftists/Appeasers are perfectly aware of what they believe and perfectly happy with their self destructive beliefs since none of that matters.

See the two biggest problems right now for the leftists don’t revolve around Al Queda and possible attacks. No sireee, the two biggest problems they see are the ascendancy of the United States which bothers the heck out of them and that darn George W. Bush. They, must, defeat, that, bible thumping, wife loving, children raising man, let’s say that again because that word really sticks in their craws, MAN. Everything must be done to defeat George Bush; he is the antithesis of everything their nihilistic philosophy believes. If they don’t destroy him the general public just might have a hero that can push back the leftists rapid envelopment of what passes for middle class society. By defeating him and electing John Kerry they would defeat the biggest threat to their world view to come around since Ronald Reagan. I would argue that it’s possible that George Bush is actually a bigger threat to their nihilistic world view than our beloved Reagan. Tearing down the United States is part of the deal as well since they really don’t like what the United States represents, sure they like the freedom but they don’t like the freedom to fail, the don’t like that competition thing, and they surely don’t like that we are a religious nation. Ooh boy they REALLY don’t like that, we don’t resemble France at all.

So you see its hard to believe that you are shocked by the nonsense that passes for news on the national media these days. Surely you must be joking to believe that the National News Media would put any story out that would do any of the following things, show the connections between Al Queda and Saddam, show that the WMD’s programs have indeed been found in a form that proves Saddam was violating the cease fire, show that Al Queda has indeed already been equipped with WMD’s from Saddam or that the economy is on the rebound, heck if they thought they could get away with it they would claim the sun was not going to rise tomorrow because of some agreement between Cheney, Bush and that evil Corporation Halliburton.

Now I know what you are thinking, you are thinking well buster brown surely those evil leftists are not hoping for another attack, surely they are fighting as hard as the rest of us to prevent another attack right? Well maybe so, but distorting reality is a hard habit to break and the left has been doing so much of it that I don’t think they even believe that there is a threat. Make believe world is a fun world when you are a child and a much less useful world when you are an adult. Mainly because the reality of an enemy is hard enough to discern when you are truthful but when you are busy manufacturing one set of lies for this supposedly gullible population and another reality for your policy makers you are likely to be extremely confused and declare victory prior to the fight. Then again they may actually believe that the bigger threat is indeed George Bush. Now how much fun is that?
|

Far be it that I should suggest that a significant portion of the National Media may not love their country, after all don't they display that love each and every minute of the day? I realize that suggesting that the National Media may not love their country as much as say A.N.S.W.E.R. is tantamount to calling for the establishment of a Police State but when the sort of nonsense that passes as reporting is gathered in over the course of a middle aged man's lifetime a rational person is left with the observation that maybe the National Reporting process is broken. One needs to ask what is broken and why. Being a libertarian I suspect that the Governments hand in the process of education may have something to do with the fact that national reporters by and large hate their country. Or perhaps its better said that they love a country that doesn't exist and they are engaged in changing this country to fit that nihilistic vision of theirs. Not surprisingly the solid middle class is a bit upset by this apparent attempt to change the country into something that has only been seen in Communist paradise's lost or in the vision of love and tolerance in Taliban Afghanistan. But since the National Press is engaged in a bit of subversion, well OK more than a bit of subversion, the Middle Class is also very confused, after all who would believe that Dan Rather is a closet Communist.

So then this article in National Review is entertaining but a bit naive since it believes that by naming the horror we will root it out. That isn't the case at all. No the only strategy worth a hoot in this battle to win back our country is to force the left to expose itself, and depend on the solid commonsense of the Middle Class to dismiss it from the National Scene. Pointing a finger and saying "Look Mom Bob is beating me up" is not nearly as effective as having Bob believe that Mom will approve if Bob admits to beating us up. We want Bob to say "Look Mom I'm beating up Pierre and it is a good thing"...then Mom will beat Bob about the head and shoulders like the Red Haired Step Child that he is.

IMAO: In My World: Rumsfeld Vows to Kill Everyone and Then Sing Kumbaya: "'I hope so, for after Iraq I have plans to continue into other countries in the Middle East, wiping out even more terrorists. Then we will start another campaign in Asia starting in North Korea wiping out all other enemies to America. Next we will start a front in Europe doing the same. Eventually, we will hunt down and kill everyone who is trying to harm America, everyone who is thinking of harming America, anyone who supports the harming of America, and anyone who is not vehemently opposed to harming America. In summary, anyone who wishes to terrorize America will die. Anyone who isn't against terrorism in America will die. Anyone who sees American on TV killed or captured and cheers will die. Anyone who hates America will die. Anyone who spells America with a 'k' will die. Anyone who doesn’t cheer every time they hear the name of America will die. And, when all our enemies are finally dead, we will beckon in this newfound era of peace by sitting in a circle and singing Kumbaya.'

One of President Bush's biggest weaknesses is his refusal to hold people accountable when policies they advocate go wrong. Iraq has gone or is going off the tracks, this is the consensus from either side of the aisle and yet the same people are in charge? Why? Why are the people who refused to show the terror connections between Iraq and Al Qaeda still in charge? This is the basis of the entire charge of the Anti War Moderates, this war was not necessary, had the terror connections been highlighted this problem wouldn't exist. Why are the people who failed to find the WMD's still in charge? This is a huge failure and its one that the Democrats cannot highlight since they are on record as saying they never existed, nonsense they existed and we lost them. Who is responsible?
Jed Babbin on Fallujah on National Review OnlineWe could have, and should have, made a full-out attack on Fallujah two weeks ago. The longer we wait, the more casualties our men suffer while the Iranian, Syrian, and other imported terrorists entrench themselves among the innocents there. Our military operations should proceed without regard to damage to the city, only taking care avoid inflicting casualties on the noncombatants. This can still be done, by requiring the women, children, and elders to leave now, and then use the full force we have available to kill the insurgents. No more ceasefires anywhere, please, until the insurgents are beaten decisively.
Defense Department sources say that more is going on in Fallujah than meets the eye. I hope so. But what is going on — in the eyes of the Marines there, not yours and mine — is what is important.

The way the Democrats used to talk once upon a time.
AllPolitics - San Diego Convention - Famous Convention Speeches1984 Jeane Kirkpatrick Thank you very much for that warm welcome.
Thank you for inviting me. This is the first Republican Convention I have ever attended. I am grateful that you should invite me, a lifelong Democrat. On the other hand, I realize that you are inviting many lifelong Democrats to join this common cause. I want to begin tonight by quoting the speech of the president whom I very greatly admire, Harry Truman, who once said to the Congress:
"The United States has become great because we, as a people, have been able to work together for great objectives even while differing about details." He continued: "The elements of our strength are many. They include our democratic government, our economic system, our great natural resources. But, the basic source of our strength is spiritual. We believe in the dignity of man."

That's the way Democratic presidents and presidential candidates used to talk about America.

Update: Just want to be clear about one thing, Im the one pushing this NOT the mother. She is already proud of her son, rightfully so, I just want to be proud of my local paper.
Pretty depressing the nonsense that passes for news these days, as editors try and decide how best to sell papers. In Baton Rouge Butt Crack Legislation for instance is a lot more important than the story of a Baton Rouge Native who after being the Homecoming court nominee Junior/Senior year...playing football...making good grades in high school...class president....then he decided to "do something for his country" joined the Marines instead of going to LSU on the TOPS program. A St. Louis Paper saw fit to run TWO stories on this brave Marine while the Baton Rouge Advocate ran how many stories on this Marine who is doing more than that Senator with the Butt Crack legislation to defend their right to publish? Zero. Thats right ZERO. Now I realize that this isnt a national story but dammit shouldnt a local paper be interested in heros like this?

I need some help from anyone who might be able to help get this story run in a Baton Rouge Paper, it bothers me that we worry about stuff like Butt Crack Legislation when we have people fighting facing the worst sorts of nightmares and their local papers refuse to run stories about them. Here is the email I sent the Managing Editor Carl Redman after the email I sent to the Executive Editor Linda Lightfoot went unanswered.

This is the second email I have sent. Having recieved zero response from the first I thought I would try the Managing Editor since the Executive Editor is apparently too busy to reply. On my humble weblog I ran a story about a Brave Marine, in Iraq, defending us, a Lance Corporal Dustin Myshrall, noting that he was a Baton Rouge Native. I fully expected that the Advocate would have run a story about him since his story was poignant enough for the St.Louis paper, surely the Baton Rouge Paper might find enough room to put a blurb or more about this man. His mom having been alerted to the St. Louis Today story was apparently doing a search on the Internet of stories about her son. She found my story and left comments. I ran her story again since my paper is alot cheaper than yours...with a bit more information including the comments she had left the first time. She has again left
comments and I feel that you should see them because surely what this Marine is doing is a LOT more important than that loser who is
advocating banning Low Cut Jeans.

But let me let her tell you. This is Lance Corporal Dustin Myshrall's mom. Here is the first comment she left...
======================================================================
==================
On April 19th I happened to unexpectedly come across this post:

Baton Rouge Lance Corp. Dustin Myshrall figured large in the battle near the Iraq Syrian border where the bad guys are trying to infiltrate into Iraq from Syria. Got caught and smashed against the steel will of the Marines. Courtesy of the Belmont Club...thanks for the heads up. STLtoday.com Insurgent Iraqis kill five Marines

Lance Corporal Dustin Myshrall is in LIMA Co. He lost four very close friends that terrible day in Husaybah. All four friends KIA were in Myshralls Platoon. They were like brothers to each other. The 5th Marine killed that day was LIMA Co. Commanding Officer, Captain Richard Gannon who was highly respected by Myshrall and his entire company. When the 14 hour battle was over, Myshrall drove the truck with his dead fallen comrades back to base. There he stood guard over those fallen heros killed in action. Lance Corporal Myshrall would have given his life to spare the life of his Captain or any one of his friends. That's just the way he is. In his eyes, he did his duty as a Marine, and would never consider his actions to be out of the ordinary. But, I don't always agree with what Myshrall thinks. In my eyes, he's a hero. I can say that. I'm his mother.

Thanks for mentioning him. I appreciate it very much!http://www.papadoc.net/2004_04_18_dregs#108235083180968106

I wrote to the editor.
I think you should be ashamed since the St. Louis Paper found the space to run two articles on this brave Marine and the battles he fights to defend you and I. ( I have edited this as its confusing the way I originally wrote it)

Here is the Marine Mom's second comment to me.
======================================================================
==================
The Advocate is busy running articles about the ridiculous bill that was passed by one of our Senators who is offended by low cut jeans showing excuse me here...ahem...butt-cracks! Guess Brittney Spears won't be allowed back home without paying a $500 fine now. PLEASE! I have better things to worry about right now. Like the safety of our armed forces and the good 'ole USA!

Remember the Marines in your thoughts this day, fierce fighting and bravery are the order of the day for our Marines. When you are out in your car today with the kids remember who it is that keeps you and yours safe, the Army, Navy, Air-force, Marines and Intelligence officers who stand on the borders and defend us. Never pass up a moment to thank one.....never pass up a moment to tell your children of their bravery and heroism. Never forget that a small kindness can go an immeasurable distance in counteracting the attacks on the morale our armies face from those who would rather hide than fight. Never forget the day I saw a Marine Officer in the supermarket with his Son, I pardoned my self and with my daughters age 6 and 2 thanked him for his service, his son was beaming. My six year old thanked him and later on asked me if he was one of the men that was fighting the bad men, I told her yes he faced the bad men so we wouldnt have to. She was very impressed and said he looked like a very brave man. I told her all of the Marines were brave, that you couldnt be a Marine unless you were brave. The National Media wants to demoralize our men and our leaders, we can stop that with a counter attack of compassion, enthusiasm and honesty. Our fighting soldiers deserve our complete no holds backing.

I get the feeling from the site that the owner disagrees with the war in Iraq nevertheless the service he renders by listing the dead along with personal information is invaluable. Some are worried that when we see the dead we will lose our stomach for the defense of our land, I say that when we stare into the eyes of those who fell defending freedom we steel ourselves to the battles yet to come, they knew the stakes and they risked everything, who are we to shirk the fight? I look at their pictures and the stories and wonder where do we get soldiers of such caliber, looking at these fallen heros should be cause to renew your pledge to our country and its freedoms, just as they did.

The only failing of the site is the failure to list all of the dead from 9/11 and their pictures as they died in the war on terror as well. Indeed Flt 93 passengers gave us our first victory in this war when they decided to take the plane back from the thugs. They deserve to be listed as well.
