UPDATE: #2 She is on a hormone to shut down her pancreas along with no food or water in an attempt to allow her pancreas to rest and hopefully heal. There is a 40% chance that this procedure will be successful. Prayers are welcome.
Again I am floored by her strength and grace. At 7 years old she has only joked about not having any food or water aside from her TPN fluids administered through a PIC line. Deny me food for less than 4 hours and we have a fight.
UPDATE: Anna has been moved into a regular room. She continues to improve though we are looking at another week in the hospital. We are hoping that no more surgery will be required. She is shocked enough by the two cuts already made to repair her pancreas and to place the drainage tube. One of her classmates came to visit today and had a million questions about the stuff hanging off of Anna.
My wife and I have slowly let out some of the breath we have been holding as the doctor has assured us that we are making steady progress and that they have responses for any more bumps in the road.
One thing for sure Anna is living proof of the dictum "whatever doesnt kill you makes you stronger!" As she has shown strength in the face of procedures that would make a grown person cry.
Thank you to everyone for your prayers between those and the terrific staff at Our Lady of the Lake we have perhaps made it past the worst.
My eldest daughter had an accident last Friday at school which injured her pancreas. So now she is in ICU with drainage tubes making sure that all the pancreatic fluid drains properly so as to not injure her organs.
Thank god we have such great staff at Our Lady of the Lake Childrens hospital here in Baton Rouge. The Doctor says her prognosis is good but we won't know how long it will take for her to get better.
Please keep her in your prayers and thoughts. ICU is meant for people my age, not 7 year olds. Give your kids an extra hug today and let them know how much you love them, take nothing for granted. I never have with my kids but you can never love them too much.
