- A Common Man Looks at the War on Islamic Terror -

Freedom and fear are at war.
The advance of human freedom the great achievement of
our time, and the great hope of every time now depends on us.

Our nation this generation will
lift a dark threat of violence
from our people and our future.
We will rally the world to
this cause by our efforts,
by our courage.
We will not tire,
we will not falter,
we will not fail. George Bush 9/20/2001

What the enemy believes
We are not fighting so
that you will offer us
something.
We are fighting
to eliminate you.
Hussein Massawi,
a former Hezbollah leader.

Funny things going on in Washington...a response to DANIEL HENNINGER
Double Deckers exploding in London, Marines blowing up with bombs made in Iran AGAIN, Iraq moving towards a constitution that codifies Islam’s ridiculous views towards just about everything, Pakistan telling us we don’t have the right to chase Bin Laden into areas they are scared to go into, things are just peachy keen eh? Kids getting hanged for being gay by a religion that is called peaceful Andrew Sullivan call your office, girls getting hanged for being raped, people being stoned just because, yup everything is peachy keen. You have to give it to the Religion of Peace’s marketing guys their client has murdered its way across the globe all through history, threatening people with death and destruction unless you join and still they are known from the President of the US down to conservative commentators like Hugh Hewitt, Cliff May and Captain Ed as the Religion of Peace or RoP to save space, their Marketing guys are the best. If Ted Bundy would have had them working for him he would be teaching Womens History at Bryn Mawr instead of dead.

How convenient that the Bush Administration chose this moment in history to decide that we really are not fighting a war. No siree bob we are in a struggle, with people we make up names for because mentioning the connections to the RoP is poo poo’d by polite folks, but they are extreme. Barry Goldwater duck in your grave, given your predilection for “extremism in the defense of liberty” you are now with the terrorists, whoever they might be. Yup but then again going after Old Dead White Guys is a lot easier politically than to dare mention that our enemy, whether they are in NYC, Pakistan, Bali, or the Sudan, all seem to have one thing in common, they all follow a religion that everyone including the President calls the RoP. Though I see the political advantages we gain by avoiding naming our enemy and going after Old Dead White Guys, Old Dead White Guys don’t cast as many votes as RoP followers.

And that’s what this is all about isn’t it? Political advantages, neither the Republicans nor Democrats seem to take this war on whatever very seriously. Both camps take polls and then utter idiotic statements based on the latest Gallup poll. Given the seriousness with which we are fighting/struggling this, whatever it is, one might be forgiven for wondering if both parties believe that this war is won and that the enemy is on the run. Oops I said enemy, how judgmental of me.

We have been winning battles so far, the war is far from over, pardon me for allowing my sarcasm to lapse, but matter of fact our enemy’s plan is exactly to wait us out. They know we, especially our politicians, are like ADHD children, we get bored easily and when faced with tremendous adversity simply switch interests.

Perhaps someone could give some Ritalin to our supposed Defenders in Congress, the Executive Branch, and Press because every one of them has failed to prosecute this war to win. They all just got bored and went on to other fun things that didn’t have such grave consequences.

How can I tell they got bored? Consider that no one got fired for failing to stop 9/11. Sorry but if you fail that spectacularly in Business you are history, your fault or not. Now we absolutely know that there were some major league mistakes of judgment, caused not by mere Agents but by their very leaders and the culture those leaders created, that allowed those followers of the RoP to murder 3,000 of our citizens, attack the center of our most famous city destroying the two tallest buildings, attack and nearly destroy the center of our military headquarters all on National TV and poof everyone gets a pat on the back and better luck next time. Say what?!!? If our intelligence services were half as competent as those people who are extreme that we cannot name this war would have been over by now.

Sorry but that is simply an indication to me that the Government isn’t truly trying to correct itself, no indeed not. Instead this is Government making sure that the blame doesn’t fall too heavily on it, making sure that those governed don’t ask a very simple question and it’s corollary. Exactly what have you been doing with all that money we have spent on intelligence and the military? And why was it that citizens were forced to save the Capital on that fateful day in September.

Which points to why it is so dangerous that Democrats are not serious about this struggle against whatever. A serious opposition party might have held the administrations feet to the fire for not moving against those Department Heads responsible for detecting and preventing such a massive catastrophe. In regards to the WMD’s in Iraq they might have wondered if President Bush’s delays allowed Saddam to move them and if Saddam did move them they would have pounced on the Bush administration for failing to stop that movement.

And since I am dreaming. If the press were actually trying to help win this war instead of trying to win elections for the hapless Democrats, we might have had some more penetrating questions at news conferences.

  • Like President Bush it is reported that Saddam moved his weapons to Syria, do you consider this a failure of your policy?
  • Mr. President are you upset with Grover Norquist for arranging photo ops with terrorist sponsors?
  • Mr. President how long are you going to allow Syria to sponsor the murder of our soldiers in Iraq?
  • Mr. President is your statement that nations that sponsor terrorism are our enemies still true and if so how long are you willing to allow Iran to sponsor terrorism?
  • Mr. President how do you feel about President Reagan allowing Iran to sponsor a group that murdered 241 Marines?
  • Mr. President are you disappointed that Bin Laden has not yet been declared an apostate by any Imam?
  • Mr. President its been reported that Iran has been supplying the very sophisticated shaped charges that just last week killed 14 Marines, how will you respond to such outrageous behavior?
  • Why are we allowing Pakistan to veto our hot pursuit of Osama Bin Laden?
  • What are your plans for shutting down Mosques that preach hatred and incite violence towards the United States?

Then I wake up. And find that this administration is now saying we are involved in a Struggle and instead of being laughed out of Washington people nod their heads as if that nonsense makes sense. WOW. We are in big trouble, keep your poweder dry and don't shoot till you see the whites of their eyes.
