John Podhoretz is a funny guy, when it looked like this entire Able Danger episode might just damage the Clinton Administration he was shouting from the top of rooftops about the seriousness of the charges. Ever since it became evident that the Bush administration was going to see some fallout as well all of a sudden Rep Curt Weldon is a nutcase. Podhoretz has carefully avoided talking to Rep Weldon since that might just ruin his entire effort to discredit it. I am sure that were the National Review to call over to Rep Curt Weldons office they might arrange an interview where Rep Weldon could dismantle those strawmen that Podhoretz is frantically building up and destroying in his attempt to discredit Rep Weldon. Seems so strange that a news organization of such power wouldn't want to at least interview those concerned? Why not? Tell me if "Able Danger" had only promised to embarrass the Clinton Administration do you think that the National Review would have already had a few interviews?

For instance one of the claims that Podhoretz likes to make is that Rep Weldon has changed his story...he apparently bases this nonsense on a Time Report. Having read Weldons book, read his testimony from 2002 in the House, his numerous attempts to bring this to the forefront the story has stayed remarkably consistent, as it would if one were telling the truth. It is Podhoretz's desire to make Rep Weldon out to be a liar which he does by insinuating that the story has changed. Liars story change because they cannot ever remember the truth.

Having to work nearly 24/7 to get ready to take some refugee's in for the duration of their rebuilding in New Orleans its just sickens me to see such blatant partisanship drive this story. Its as if we will fight each other to the death whilst Al Queda and their state sponsors snipe us from afar. Our governments local, state and national are simply and absolutely incompetent and worse absolutely immune to any serious attempts at accountability. Ray Nagin after nearly murdering thousands with his incompetence is still making decisions, Blanco after her efforts at political hackery nearly killed thousands is still making decisions, and those at the top of the food chain that are supposed to be asking hard questions on how effective they are in fighting the terrorists are still hiding answers from us their keepers.

My donations to the Bush administration would have purchased a few terrific dinners in New Orleans for my wife and I. For that money I expect, nay demand that they are as self critical and open about their faults as possible. Why? Because by constantly analyzing the nations faults and working to correct them we get stronger and maybe just maybe my children won't have to suffer the indignity of seeing a major US city destroyed by a bunch of losers. Instead of this introspection and accountability I get the spectacle of Podhoretz making an ass of himself by attacking Rep Weldon because of Podhoretz loyalty to the Bush Administration.

The fact that "Able Danger" promises to embarrass both Democrats and Republicans means that neither conservative nor liberal News organizations know what the hell to do with this story. This is also confusing bloggers who cannot leave behind the trappings of partisanship.
