- A Common Man Looks at the War on Islamic Terror -

Freedom and fear are at war.
The advance of human freedom the great achievement of
our time, and the great hope of every time now depends on us.

Our nation this generation will
lift a dark threat of violence
from our people and our future.
We will rally the world to
this cause by our efforts,
by our courage.
We will not tire,
we will not falter,
we will not fail. George Bush 9/20/2001

What the enemy believes
We are not fighting so
that you will offer us
something.
We are fighting
to eliminate you.
Hussein Massawi,
a former Hezbollah leader.

Bravery found in unexpected places against Islams fanatics but not in the US.
The world is changing in front of our eyes. Backbones are being stiffened, old women are showing young men how to stand up to those who would have us cast our own freedoms away. Foreign Journalists are showing US Journalists the meaning of bravery and integrity.

The Queen of Denmark is my kind of woman and exactly the sort of person most of our US politicians have no hope of measuring up to. Backbone personified, bouyed by a clear eye'd understanding of the threat. No wonder the Prime Minister is such a tough cookie he doesn't want to appear soft against a 65 year old Queen.

Telegraph News We must show our opposition to Islam, says Danish queen: "'We have to show our opposition to Islam and we have to, at times, run the risk of having unflattering labels placed on us because there are some things for which we should display no tolerance.'

'And when we are tolerant, we must know whether it is because of convenience or conviction.'

Then we have the spectacle of Jordanian Editors showing the US Mainstream media what it means to have integrity. What it means to understand that the Freedom of the Press means nothing if you will not print news that offends a particular group. Who understand that even if it means going to jail you must stand by your principles. US newsmen play act their paeans to integrity and freedom of the press by going to jail for items that mean nothing. But when faced with a true threat to their wellbeing back away from the subject like a bunch of children who hear a loud noise in the dark.

Mr Momani's paper, Shihan, had printed three of the cartoons, alongside an editorial questioning whether the angry reaction to them in the Muslim world was justified.

"Muslims of the world be reasonable," wrote Mr Momani.

"What brings more prejudice against Islam, these caricatures or pictures of a hostage-taker slashing the throat of his victim in front of the cameras or a suicide bomber who blows himself up during a wedding ceremony in Amman?"

Then we look to our own shores where surely our own robust tradition of freedom of the press will be shining brightly. We find nothing. We see some stories but not a single paper of note reprinting the pictures in solidarity with our European Friends. While papers all over Europe are printing the pictures to show support for the basic right of Freedom of the Press....not a single paper in the US has decided to do as much.

Perhaps we can expect the voice of the Conservative movement giving support to the basic right of Freedom of the Press. Perhaps we can find some solace that the National Review will stand up and be counted amongst the brave. But while some articles are being pushed out of the door probably reluctantly due to an inordinate desire not to offend muslims evident by Rich Lowry's collapse when pressured by CAIR last year, we see no pictures. Nothing to show that they too stand in solidarity with those papers across Europe where the threat of death for unpopular opinions is much more near. Even a lonely voice in the wilderness article by the Founder William F. Buckley Jr. wondering why the MSM was censoring themselves did not move NRO to publish the pictures. Bravery is missed so sorely when it does not exist.

We are living in times that are demanding of a persons soul. Bravery is one of the most important attributes in our fight and it has gone missing in so much of the elite in our society. Never having been tested in life because of the ease of their lives, for the first time they need it, bravery, and have no idea what is missing. But it takes a brave soul to publish items that have people calling for your head. But avoiding the threat by giving up your freedom only postpones your day of reckoning it doesn't eliminate it. Worse because you have allowed the enemy to gain so much strength, and you have given up so much of yours in an effort to appease, you suffer so much worse.
