- A Common Man Looks at the War on Islamic Terror -

Freedom and fear are at war.
The advance of human freedom the great achievement of
our time, and the great hope of every time now depends on us.

Our nation this generation will
lift a dark threat of violence
from our people and our future.
We will rally the world to
this cause by our efforts,
by our courage.
We will not tire,
we will not falter,
we will not fail. George Bush 9/20/2001

What the enemy believes
We are not fighting so
that you will offer us
something.
We are fighting
to eliminate you.

Fundamentalists, Mohammed Cartoons, Denmark and Censorship
Curious about something regarding this entire debate regarding Islam. When we declare that a person is a moderate Muslim exactly what is it that a person believes in regarding Islam that defines them as moderate? Which parts of the Koran do they ignore? For Mormons a lot of them ignore the Prohibition on drinking which defines them as Jack Mormons or people who take Mormonism pretty casually.

I include this definition of Fundamentalism simply for fun. After all its those evil Fundamentalists in Islam that are supposedly causing all the trouble these days.
fundamentalism: Definition and Much More From Answers.com: "A usually religious movement or point of view characterized by a return to fundamental principles, by rigid adherence to those principles, and often by intolerance of other views and opposition to secularism."
Which brings me to this puzzle. Are our allies in this war of civilizations the Jack Muslims? When we say that Islam has been hijacked by radical fundamentalists do we mean that it has been hijacked by those who read every jot of the Koran and nod their heads in agreement? Because that is the definition of Fundamentalist, a person who reads scriptures and believes every single word is true exactly as it is written.

If that is true then our task is simple in this war of civilizations, convince the other-side that the Jack Muslims are more likely to reach heaven than they are. I said simple, that didn't mean easy. Convince them that their salvation from the misery they find all around them is not to read the Koran even more closely but to relax have a drink, read some other books besides the Koran and watch a few Brittany Spears videos...heh.

Sure it is clear to anyone reading this blog that I believe we are at war with Islam. But it would be incorrect to believe that this means bullets and bombs. Wars can also be waged with ideas and information. We did not choose this war with Islam as our very identity as a Nation makes such religious wars abhorrent. But just because we did not choose it does not mean we can ignore it. Whether we will or not, war is upon us.

How we fight it now will determine how much death follows. Should we place our heads in the sands and lie to ourselves about Islam then much death and destruction will follow when we are finally roused. But we have it in our power to change minds, to reduce the hold of the fundamentalists, not by lying about Islam but by seeing it as it is. That is what drives me to distraction about the President, his insistence on declaring that Islam is the religion of peace in the face of centuries of evidence to the contrary. Does he actually believe that those Muslims who can be defined as Moderate buy that crap after all the misery and tears they have shed with this 7th century throwback to hell?

But to fight properly with words we cannot tie one hand behind our backs by censoring our news media in the hopes of not offending the Fundamentalists. Offend them gently but offend them nonetheless since those Jack Muslims we are depending on to join us must be as revolted by the spectacle as we are and that surely will drive them from the Fundamentalists. This can have no other effect than to make our overall job easier. Fundamentalists are playing a dangerous game on one hand pushing Europe to censor itself while on the other-hand trying not to lose those who teeter on the edge of disbelief in Islam. If we censor our media, as it seems Europe is in the process of doing, the Fundamentalists will have won a great victory.
