- A Common Man Looks at the War on Islamic Terror -

Freedom and fear are at war.
The advance of human freedom the great achievement of
our time, and the great hope of every time now depends on us.

Our nation this generation will
lift a dark threat of violence
from our people and our future.
We will rally the world to
this cause by our efforts,
by our courage.
We will not tire,
we will not falter,
we will not fail. George Bush 9/20/2001

What the enemy believes
We are not fighting so
that you will offer us
something.
We are fighting
to eliminate you.
Hussein Massawi,
a former Hezbollah leader.

Monumental Naivete coupled with a childlike belief in statements by Mohammed's followers results....
Well this is a bit late but I simply didn't have time earlier this week to properly fisk this well intentioned but naive post. The sardonic tone taken by the author is mildly ironic considering the results of looking deeper into his links than a mere cliff notes style looksee. His links didn't hold up well to closer scrutiny. Oopsy.

The Silence Is DeafeningPosted by Dorkafork
The scales have fallen off of my eyes. Islam is bad. It is by nature incompatible with the West. The 99.9% of Muslims not protesting are not coming out against the violence. They are the silent majority and their silence is damning.
Building up the strawman that those of us who consider Islam a threat believe that all muslims constitute that threat. Certainly this is not true of myself nor of anyone in the mainstream warning of the impending disaster that will result from not acknowledging Islams threat.

Furthermore, if you are being oppressed under absurd and despotic rule, having leaders of thought, press and government appease your oppressors does not give you aid and comfort. Think communism and try and imagine anyone behind the Iron Curtain being thankful for Jimmy Carters appeasement of their oppressors. Compare and contrast that with how they might have felt with Ronald Reagan's honest appraisal of their despotic rulers.

(I mean, besides this statement. But besides that, silence.)
Well gee yea having CAIR on your side really wins the day...except when they are on the otherside. CAIR has been repeatedly accused by numerous respected entities of having connections to terror. The most recent is their defense of Dr. Hassan who has been connected to Tablighi Jamaat Now merely saying that CAIR is on the otherside is not enough. What one must understand is lying is considered to be a part of the tactics used to advance the cause of Islam. They even have a word for it, "al-Taqiyya" which literally means "Concealing or disguising one's beliefs, convictions, ideas, feelings, opinions, and/or strategies at a time of eminent danger, whether now or later in time, to save oneself from physical and/or mental injury." A one-word translation would be "Dissimulation." (Thanks Beth!)

(And except for this one, too, silence.)
We are definitely thankful for the efforts of the Free Muslims. We would be remiss though if we didn't point out that they are a small group with virtually no support. For instance they organized a poorly attended demonstration of Muslims against terror and not a single major Muslim group supported the Demonstration. It is worth noting that two organizations listed here as being against violence MPAC and CAIR decided demonstrating with the Free Muslims against terror was not in their interest. We wish Free Muslims the best but realistically using them to show how Islam is reacting to terror is not honest.

(All right, besides the first statement, the second one, and this one there's been nothing, just silence.)
Here is what the Founder of MPAC Salam al-Marayati: was heard saying on KCRW-FM's "Which Way, LA?" while the smoke was still rising from the WTC and the screams were still heard during the 9/11 attacks against this country. Is the statement quoted at INDC another example of "al-Taqiyya"? Read the statements below and decide for yourself.

Salam al-Marayati: "If we're going to look at suspects, we should look to the groups that benefit the most from these kinds of incidents, and I think we should put the state of Israel on the suspect list because I think this diverts attention from what's happening in the Palestinian territories so that they can go on with their aggression and occupation and apartheid policies."

The Vice Chairman is even more fun bringing out the evil Zionists from the closet to befuddle and confuse the issues.

"Those who are part of the political Zionist movement in America want to ensure that no one ever comes close to challenging their power in Washington. They want to intellectually destroy everything that endangers their interests. They know it very well that without the support of the United States or any of the world superpowers, their country, namely Israel, would not be able to pursue its apartheid and racist policies in the Middle East. They will use every means possible to ensure that American administration stays on their side. They will create false enemies, they will distort facts, they will manipulate events; and they will concoct and fabricate lies. They have taken America hostage. Americans realize that, and many in the country have started speaking up. The political Zionists want to silence them before they become louder.

Sheesh fellas are you sure you want to use MPAC as witnesses for the defense?

(SILENCE! Total and complete except for the aforementioned statements and this one.)

Well ok Asghar Bukhari is not an altogether bad guy after all he does condemn the bombings in London. That he believes the bombings in Israel are A-Ok might bother a few people but I guess if you are struggling to find people to back up your point of view you get them where you can.

(Look, just give me a mulligan on this one.)
Another group that seems to actually believe in supporting our country congrats on your find.

(So another "prominent" Muslim scholar condemned it. The guy heads some Dublin based group. Try and find me a major religious leader in the Middle East who is against the violence.)

Oopsy not sure this guy is such a terrific representative for the defense considering he said this: The governments must be pressured to demand that the UN adopt a clear resolution or law that categorically prohibits affronts to prophets - to the prophets of the Lord and His messengers, to His holy books, and the religious holy places. This is so that nobody could cause them harm. They enacted such laws in order to protect the Jews and Judaism. Like some Danes have said: "We can mock Jesus and his mother." They were asked: "Can you mock the Jews?" Here they stopped. The Jews are protected by laws - the laws that protect Semitism, and nobody can say even one word about the number [of victims] in the alleged Holocaust. Nobody can do so, even if he is writing an M.A. or Ph.D. thesis, and discussing it scientifically. Such claims are not acceptable. When Roger Garaudy talked about it, he was sentenced to jail, according to the laws. We want laws protecting the holy places, the prophets, and Allah's messengers.

Besides Sistani.
Silence! Try and find me another Iraqi that feels that way.)

Yes when the US Army is guaranteeing your continued survival we can count on your support of civilization. It is also worth noting that he was a very lonesome figure speaking out against the violent protests in Iraq. Virtually all the other religious figures in Iraq were demanding demonstrations.

SHUT UP! Put it this way, how many rallies have Muslims held that took a stand
against the violence? None.)

Using one person, however noble a person Iraq the Model is, he is merely a blogger not the head of some religious organ or political outfit, as a witness for the defense is reaching of the first degree.

(Doesn't count. Hasn't happened yet. The point is Islam is incompatible with Western ideals of democracy or freedom.)

Quote from the link provided...is this testimony for the defense or the prosecution?

Secondly, to Europe, the lesson from the cartoon is not that Western newspapers come under the fold of Islamic law. It is actually that orientalist and Islamophobic caricatures are unacceptable, irresponsible, and lead to a more polarised world.

Uh ok so we aren't saying that Freedom of the Press is being infringed we are just saying that we want you not to print anything we deem unacceptable...now I get it. After we win the propaganda battle because we successfully silenced the free press THEN Freedom of the Press will come under Islamic Law. Its all clear to me now.

(Besides the Islamic nations that are becoming more free.
Oooh now not so quick. Dean Esmay's post deserves another entire response but we can do a small bitty fisking of it right now if you insist. Islamic Nations that are becoming more free...we will disregard all the countries that Dean includes that do not have Muslim majorities, why he includes them is a bit strange.

BANGLADESH So I guess he wasn't talking about Bangladesh since it is becoming less free.

INDONESIA:
Yes Indonesia is supposed to be a terrific example of a country becoming more free under Muslim rule. Or is it becoming more free? Is the trend really towards freedom or are the Fundamentalists making some serious inroads into turning Indonesia into an Islamic State? Council on Foreign Relations isn't as optimistic as Freedom House, calling Indonesia a haven for terrorists and noting that radical Islamists have gained momentum. Indonesia practices Sharia and efforts to soften it have failed. For a picture into the minds of those who support Sharia in Indonesia one need only look to this document

And what the heck does Fouad Ajami know anyway?
What Fouad knows is that our idea of giving freedom to the Arabs is a good thing. No one argues that this is true. What Fouad does not say is that Islam is the religion of peace which I believe is what the defense is hoping for. Indeed giving Arabs freedom is one way of giving them hope that they can change Islam into a religion that can live peacefully with others. This is the hope.
Look, if 99.9% of Muslims are against violence like this, how come no
Bangladeshi farmers have taken out full page ads in the NYT? They need to make
more of an effort. I'm home, give me a call or something. Knock on the door.)
Wow talk about pulling a number out of the thin air. Where did that 99.9% come from? Which poll did that come from? Hey! I have some polls lets take a look at the Pew Polls of Islamic Public opinion and see whether they show support for the Radical Extremists.

On the extremely relevant question of support for Bin Laden which cuts right to the heart of the matter we find...some bad news for that 99.9% figure.

Hey lets be a bit more careful about our sources from now on INDC....after all credibility is a easy thing to lose and hard to regain. If we start wondering whether you are playing fast and loose with sources in an attempt to make a point a valuable source for news will have been compromised. I respect your belief that Islam is a force for good though I disagree with you. But it is not important enough for you to use questionable sources to make that point. You are too valuable a source of news to have you piss it away defending Islam.
