Flanker Base Ops

AUNTFAVRIDE.gif (2822 bytes)

Ah its a beautiful day I'm in the Flamingo and someone is running....gotta love it.
Ok let me kill this suckerhead...<VBG>
While I do away with this "person who didn't read my help guides" take a look down below at some tactics manuals and some missions either demonstrating the techniques or just plain fun stuff...hehe.

The UNOFFICIAL FLANKER FAQ...Of course what list of help files is even begun for Flanker without mentioning and giving you poor helpless souls the address of the Mother of All Help files from that Dear ole Mother Himself...<VBG> Mr. Redshift...GET IT READ IT AVOID LOOKING LIKE A TARGET....remember,  be the ball....!!!

The IronHand Tutorial by Rich Sorochak this guy is the SHIT when it comes to defeating SAMS. GO to his site...read and be enlightened....you wont have to cry no more about mean ole S-300 sites.

PAPA DOC'S GUIDE TO THE MERGE...yea yea yea....big deal...read it and laugh. BTW thanks to Redshift for this copy...since the genius who wrote it lost it....ooops. Here is a little snippet of wisdom from the Guide.

  • AS ALWAYS A BANDIT ON YOUR SIX IS BETTER THAN NO BANDIT AT ALL. [But not as good as a Papa in your gun camera]
  • Aerobatics tend to allow the badguy to slip out of your view...its very difficult to shoot something you can't see. Stay on him.
  • Match his nose.
  • Match his wings.
  • The ground is hard...attempt to avoid the ground unless taxing.
  • The guy with the least amount of weight has the advantage....unless he is light because he is out of stuff to shoot....then he is a target. Running out of bullets in a H2H match is unforgivable.

Auntie Mary's Guide to BVR ....this was written with testing help from Wags, Talon....they also offered words of encouragement. Wags went on to really cover the BVR fight in much more detail but that is available by getting Redshift's FAQ...get it. And in what appears to be a recurring theme again I thank Redshift for being better at keeping track of stuff...cause I had to borrow this from him. Another little taste of the guide.....

  • How far can you turn while keeping lock.
  • Missile evasion is required - you will have to be able to beam missiles. Turning away completely will allow the bandit to close on you and I guarantee that a human will take advantage of that - you will have a nice spread of missiles coming your way when you decide to bring your nose back into the fight. Keep in mind though that if you have brain overload go completely defensive and release chaff and flare - better to stay alive for five more seconds than to just take a missile in the face. Then vow to practice some more so that next time you make him have brain overload, and stick him with the missile. More fun trust me...<VBG> Once you have a guy on the defensive, it is best to have at least one missile in the air at all times to keep him on the defensive and thus not be able to put his nose on you to take a shot.

PAPA DOC'S GUIDE TO DYING IN AN UPRIGHT POSITION IN FLANKER this was originally written to help the unwary and foolish rookie Flanker pilots...might be useful for even moderately experienced pilots....might not though....<VBG> Though I have heard some experienced Flanker pilots complain about the Bandits having too much energy....wha...???? If you think that then this guide is for you....read it and be enlightened. Here is another snippet of wonderful gushy info brought to you, the unwilling unwary unknowing Rookie, by the great and powerful PAPA DOC who flies the PINK FLAMINGO....hehehe.
  • Now if the bogey is going up you must be careful...one of the most
common mistakes is to try to go to lead pursuit too early in a
vertical fight with the AI. Don't succumb to the temptation. This
causes many to believe that the AI has some sort of magical ability in
the vertical...trust me they die just fine in the vertical. This is
not to say that they don't have an advantage, they do but its not that
big a deal and is easily countered by good flying. So you have decided
to go after the bandit going up...if you try to go pure or lead
pursuit (pure pursuit means nose pointed at him, lead pursuit means
nose pointed ahead of him) right away you will lose more energy than
him and you will be one of those wondering where they stuck the Rocket
    Boosters in the Bandit.

Papa Doc's Guide to fighting in the F15 above 30,000 feet...who said you cannot fight gunzo in a Mud Hen....hehehe.

  • OH no that's all...?????? Nah dear helpless ones....that's not all that's just all right now...all what a wonderful word that is...ALL....MORE TO COME...SOONER OR LATER.....SOONER OR LATER ALL will be revealed...umm that word again.<VBG>

PAPA DOC flying the Pink Flamingo

Glad to have you stop over...sorry for the mess....in the process of learning how to do this stuff and hehehehe...gotta fly too....and other duties...<VBG>

So far the only missions I have up are a couple of my own...maybe some of y'all want to send me some for this page...maybe not....<VBG> If so please send them zipped up to plegrand@earthlink.net with a brief description that I will try to include (if you are truly brief)...I have been irritated by some taking missions of mine and even though I get credit (in most cases) they RENAME my missions...WHA..!!!! I spent a fair amount of time naming them..and they take them and rename them...well NOT here...you get credit and you get to name it.....so name it well. Sometimes missions hang around for a long time so bear that in mind.

Flanker Trk's of Brilliance and Daring...various Pilots

Flanker Missions homespun FUN by PAPA DOC & Aunt Mary and remember just because Im letting you use the Flamingo doesn't mean Im giving you permission to leave pieces parts all over the countryside. Bring her back with as many pieces as she had when I gave her to ya..<G>
