Papa Doc's Cockpit and plane textures for Flanker 2.xx series.

Alright Im surprised by the interest in my modifications to the textures in Flanker. To review I made these when it was apparent that a basic misunderstanding had occurred and that the 3dfx Users were being left in the cold with the new release of the graphically beautiful Flanker 2.0. I guess being a contrary bastard I wanted to prove that it could have been done. The cockpit was made much clearer by some painstaking work coloring pixel by pixel the different texture maps. While Im pleased with the readability of it I'm not that happy with the contrast but haven't worked anymore recently on fixing them. The plane textures were an experiment with using a different type of texture for the motors. I'm quite satisfied with the result. The color of the engines was taken from a photo of the Su-37 that graced a cover of a British aviation magazine whose name escapes me now.

These textures will also improve the 2.02 patch. As well the basic instruction of just deleting the PCI folders....now numbering a total of four of various versions (PCI, PCI_HIGH, PCI_MEDIUM, PCI_LOW, Delete them all...as they are quite useless, who knows why we were forced to download them in the 2.02 patch)  is still very much valid if you want the best graphic and the best speed. Eagle is still apparently struggling to get their heads around the 3dfx Chipset. Also it bears repeating that the only graphic options that make any difference whatsoever to a Voodoo 2 or better machine is the objects...both number and details. The various settings for textures have absolutely no effect whatsoever. Crank em up.

There are two files you must download to achive all of the modifications to both outside and inside of Flanker.

  1. Cockpit textures fix download this file and follow the instructions.

  2. Outside Plane texture fix download this file and follow the instructions.

mind that because they are JPG's they arent as beautiful as what I have wrought...naturally..<VBG>

Left side Right side notice the switches Front View it can still be improved and will be. The Current 2.02 Cockpit textures for 3dfx...ugggh.
Here is a back view of one of the BMPs contained in my PCI textures fix. Take a close look at the motors. I copied that color from the best color photo I had of the Su-37. Not exactly correct for the Su-27 but so darn cool...<VBG> Take a peek at the details on the intakes and again look at the motors. Almost looks like they are metal....hehe. The Tail Markings were kindly made by a good friend who spends all of his time in school these days learning how to be a mouthpiece. They were part of a bigger package that included markings for my jet alone. A wonderfully made Pink Flamingo. Robin is very cool....and I wish him all the best. Dull and dreary...
