I finally came to the conclusion that a defense consisting of keeping the bandit on my 3/9 line at the beginning then using large altitude changes along with the 3/9 defense was the only way to close on them for the guns kill. 7 missiles launched 1 glancing blow...2 bandits smoked. The main thing to keep in mind close quickly with the bandits while the fight is neutral, when they go offensive begin the 3/9 defense with large altitude changes towards the end. The setup is 2 SU-27's on excellent 40km in front same altitude (2000m) armed with missiles. 0. Full Military thrust 1. Switch to DVB mode (BVR) radar on & lock up a bandit.... 2. Extend MFD to 64km to show bandits on MFD 3. Begin 30 degree climb 4. ECM on.. 5. When the threat warning reciever goes off pull up to 60degree climb with full afterburner 6. When missile launch warning goes off roll to the left and release chaff and flare pull out of the climb and put the bandit on your 3/9 line keep releasing chaff and flare. Im at 6500m now.... 7. Check your MFD to make sure you are keeping the bandit on your 3/9 line this is imperative any deviation will be rewarded with a missile hit. 8. The further out the bandit is the shallower your turn towards him will be....and your turn towards will get tighter and tighter as he closes on you...usually the first 3 missiles will miss by just flying the 3/9 and releasing chaff and flare. Towards the end though you will have to start giving the missiles large altitude changes to increase LOS problems.....in this scenario once the bandit was inside 16km I started first by rolling inverted and pulling to almost vertical then rolling 180 and pulling back to level all the while keeping the bandit on the 3/9 line once even looped it, keep in mind I did get hit in the final run into the bandit.... 9. Switch to Helmet mode and aquire the bandit he should be inside 2km by the time you try to go offensive keep releasing Chaff and flare aquire him and dont allow him to extend to get another missile shot on you... 10. The first bandit launched 5 missiles 4 missed 1 caused slight damage.... 11. In this scenario after I dispatched the first with guns I went hunting for the second, eventually going full AB when I got a radar lock on him and chasing him until he turned around, then I started the above defensive dance again with the same result...2 bandits dead. You have to close on the bandits to kill them, so if they are not offensive, go after them Full AB, when they go offensive, go defensive and allow them to close on you by being religious about 3/9 line and chaff and flare..with altitude changes towards the end...While it doesnt seem obvious that your closing they are closing so hold your 3/9 line defense up with large altitude changes towards the end and allow him to close...
