My AMD K6-2 333mhz Mtech Homebuilt

Well besides all those benchmarks here are the spec.'s of my latest puter. With final impressions of the games I don't have FPS markers for and the way that they tore up my world with my new puter. Hey can you tell I like my new homebuilt...hehehe.

  • MTECH Mustang 581-A AGP Socket 7 Bios Revision .006 with the SIS 5591 chipset and 1mb of Level 2 cache with 64mb of Generic SDRAM 10ns....the non PC100 stuff. I bought this motherboard probably the week it became available in the states. For me its been very stable if at first a bit slow. The slowness was cured by Bios revisions and the stability just got stronger. I have been impressed with this product. Support has been outstanding with Bios revisions coming when needed.

  • AMD K6-2 300 processor which uses AMD'S new 3dnow instructions. Its clocked at 83x4=333mhz and its been extremely stable running all sorts of games...with a smoothness.

  • Tseng ET-6000 2mb 2d Video Card....this bad boy replaced my Hercules Stingray and it was better in Windows. I don't need ridiculous resolutions so I don't need a 2d card that is state of the ART. This one runs excellently and has no "issues".

  • Realvision Flash Voodoo 1 "3DFX CARD" nuff said...runs like it should and is constantly overclocked to 60mhz...best $149.00 I ever spent on a puter...by far.

  • Soundblaster 16 PnP once I understood that I didn't need my ACM card I was rocking with no compatibility problems and a good joystick port.

  • IBM Deskstar 4.2G Ultra ATA.....I love the sound this thing makes...sounds like a 30mm cannon ripping some armor to shreds....neat. FAST FAST FAST...

So there is my puter a collection of spare parts, old parts and new parts...cheap and fast. Wow that's the way I used to like something else when I was single..umm..hehe.  Anyways my impressions so far have been tremendous. Admittedly I probably would have been pretty impressed with a P-2 400 BX but then I really didn't have the desire or the ability to spend all that chunk of change at one time. This upgrade path saved me from that and got me a puter that burns....

Now a few games don't have Frame Rate Counters....and besides shouldn't I be having compatibility problems...? Well just for your benefit I have been playing all of my games to see if there are any impressions I can give you.....or any compatibility issues. Of course I will say this is not a promise of your not having problems...some of you are able to break anything....<VBG>

1. F1 Racing Simulator...my oh my I love this sim. But Ive never been able to race with everything turned on including clouds...well F1 Racing Sim say hello to your DADDY...AMD k6-2 333...your daddy is all the way around your French ass. MAN OH MAN first Turn at Spa FULL GRAPHICS starting from the rear....full field..NO SLOWDOWN....ohhh baby. Impression OOOOH LA LA.

2. Longbow2 FULL EVERYTHING INCLUDING THE SINK....Longbow2 say hello to your daddy...hehe...flying my Apache with a smoothness is soooo fun thanks AMD...and Mtech.

3. M1 Tank Platoon II...Again nice a smooth...not very scientific I agree but really the difference between pre and post AMD is striking. The AMD is kicking da booty....nice.

So you can see from the benchmarks..that at least in comparison to my old 187mhz this bad boy is a terrific investment...considering that some Video Cards cost this much...none save my Voodoo gave this kind of return. The best thing to me is that I was able to gradually finance the whole deal without actually financing it. Contrary to popular opinion not all computer users have oodles of money waiting to spend on the latest Intel Slot fantasy.

All that remains for me to buy is the Voodoo 2 and hopefully when I see some reviews of the new AMD drivers I will be able to justify the purchase. Currently truth is everything is running so damn well I cant justify it. Since UNREAL came out I don't play Quake so that's not an issue...(2 months ago it would have been an issue)...so I may just put the money away until the AMD k6-3d+ comes out then buy the 100mhz Front Side Bus Mobo and the Chip and spring for the Voodoo2....ummm. Better start buttering up the wifey.

Have to go now....I see a pile of dishes and well no time like the present to start buttering her up..

Hope all of this helps someone...
